Today sees the launch of the third Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) and Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and the Coop Group (Switzerland) are top of the tree.
Now in its third year, BBFAW provides an annual review of how the world’s leading food companies are managing and reporting their farm animal welfare practices.
The Benchmark is compiled by independent experts in collaboration with Compassion and our colleagues at World Animal Protection, with support from Coller Capital.
It reveals an encouraging 45% (29) of the 65 companies assessed since the first report in 2012 have moved up at least one tier. But overall average rankings are disappointingly low.
