Compassion is delighted that our Patron, Joanna Lumley OBE, is on the Radio 4 Woman's Hour List of 100 Most Powerful Women! The list, announced today (12 February), places Joanna alongside some famous politicians and business leaders.
We'll make an admission here - we wrote in to Woman's Hour to say why she had our vote. Joanna has worked with Compassion to lobby UK Ministers; she has twice come with us to Brussels to head up huge meetings with MEPS and officials from the European Commission, as well as the British Ambassador to the EU.
We have seen the impact her forceful arguments for farm animals have had on politicians and the media.
We have also admired her wonderful work for other causes, such as the way she persuaded the previous government to change their policy on the Gurkhas.
How does she do it? Her secret must surely be her absolute conviction for the causes she supports, her ability to speak out so clearly and her huge generosity of spirit.
Compassion says congratulations Joanna and thank you again for all you do for farm animals.
