In celebration of  Compassion in World Farming's 40 anniversary,  award-winning photographers travelled across Europe, India, China and the Americas depicting the lives of farm animals.

Around the world we keep 60 billion farm animals in conditions varying from acres of lush green grass to being confined in small indoor spaces.

This thought-provoking collection of photographs, unveiled on World Farm Animals Day (2nd October 2007), captures the animals' experience and shows the good, bad and ugly aspects of farming in the 21st century.
